To what extent does your thriller conform to traditional structures of genre?

My opening sequence doesn’t completely conform to the traditional idea of a thriller. The heroes of thrillers are usually males, however my protagonist is a female assassin appearing as the dominant character. The story line, mise-en-scene, camera shots and soundtrack have stuck to the normal conventional ideas of thrillers, for example there’s slow motion action shots, close ups and sharp quick shot change throughout the sequence.

Steve Neale said that genres will evolve over time and adapt, my thriller complies with this statement because although the base of it is the same as traditional ideas of what a thriller should be, there’s still aspects that are different such as the female assassin. Assassins are stereotypical and are often found in thrillers, but they’re mostly men.
The lighting in my thriller didn’t conform to norms because most of the camera shots and locations were naturally very well lit, stereotypical thrillers have dark lighting if any.

My thriller is breaking away from the conventions thriller genre because my protagonist is a female assassin. In past traditional thrillers the hero has always been a dominant male.
