Thriller Reviews

Thriller 1
Now you see me
In 2013 a French American thriller was released and directed by French director Louis Leterrier. The main characters of this 7star rated thriller are Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Isla Fisher, Mélanie Laurent, woody Harrelson and Dave Franco play “The Four Horsemen”. With the cast being a range of popular international actors who have previously starred in well know thrillers in the past there was a mixture of reviews from the critics but despite this they achieved a box office success.
The films plot includes 4 magicians that were fused together by an unknown source and a year later they find themselves in worldwide fame and performing as a group act in Las Vegas. The plot has many aspects that make it a thriller, for example in the trailer it shows its set in The United States of America, a Country with dense population and local for much of the viewers. This means that anything dangerous or threatening that happens in the film makes it more Thrilling for the audience because it’s realistic. The outfits and lighting used in the film are corresponding to the genre, for example during the shows performed by the four magicians they almost always wear outfits with basic colours like black to show the mystique about them and to influence the dark enigma they hold in the audiences point of view. The lighting during the whole film is typical to the scene, like during the performances there are large amounts of artificial light upon the group to induce the thrill of magic. Its like they don’t need to hide anything because its all perfect and so realistic it becomes impossible for the audience to believe its fake leaving them feeling amazed. The personal audio and music played in the film is a huge part of the thriller genre, it sets the mood for the scenes for example during the start of the film when Jesse Eisenberg is performing a card in the streets to a large group of people there is quiet orchestral music with noticeable use of violin which influences a weary feeling and thrilling moment when the card the lady chose was enlightened upon a large sky scraper.

Thriller 2
Olympus has fallen
Olympus Has Fallen is a 2013 American action-thriller which is directed by Antoine Fuqua, it stars Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, and Morgan Freeman. Morgan freeman has worldwide fame for his impeccable acting skills and naturally narrative sounding voice. He plays a current speaker at the white house until Koreans take hostage the president and he is forced to step up to the job. Gerard Butler plays the presidents previous guard until he plummets into the presidents (Aaron Eckhart) bad books when he doesn’t manage to save his wife in time. A thrilling term of events! Aaron Eckhart plays the president in this thriller and obviously quite well the film got a 6.5 review. Although some of the critic’s reviews were skeptical the film quickly became popular in the box office.Although the plot was frustrating during the initial white house take over by the heavily armed and highly trained terrorists launch a bold daytime attack on the White House. The film progressed well when a disgraced former guard for the president (mike Banning) finds himself being the only eyes and ears of the white house that can save the president and all of America when the Koreans attempt to set Americas nuclear bombs to self destruct.

Thriller 3
Black Swan

The movie opens as Nina Sayers (Natalie Portman), a young ballerina in her mid twenties, is dancing the prologue to Swan Lake. Swan Lake is a ballet in which a princess is turned into the White Swan and can only be turned back by her true loves kiss, which is very cliché in my opinion. In the ballet, the Black Swan, the magician’s daughter is transformed by her father to look exactly like the princess. He does this in order to trick the prince to betray Nina. In the end, the princess commits suicide because the Prince's infidelity has doomed her to remain a swan forever. As Nina dances in the role of the Princess, the magician appears and places the curse on the Princess. Nina then wakes up in her apartment, the dance sequence having been a dream. She begins her daily ballet stretching; telling her mother about her dream as her mother unintentionally ignores her. Nina mentions that the director, Thomas Leroy, of her ballet company has promised to feature her more this season and her mother agrees that she's been there long enough. Throughout the duration of the film the story line progresses up to the climax of Nina’s suicide but the use of a dramatic sound track mostly orchestra music which builds suspense and mystery. The costumes and settings used are closely connected to the thriller genre because the main colours used are black- to signify darkness, evil and the unknown, White- to contrast Nina against the other evil characters that drive her to insanity, and Red- to show the blood shed at the end of the film and the love the White swan and the princes share.
